THURSO Nemesis Kickboxing Academy last week had its first presentation evening to celebrate the achievements of its students who sat and passed their final grading of the year. The 45-minute exam at the Weigh Inn Hotel tested students from white belt up to blue belt.

"It was a great grading," said Ryan Reffell, head instructor of the academy.

"All the students gave it their all and I was so pleased for them. I’d particularly commend the green and blue belts as they went through a lot to earn their new gradings."

The presentation evening included awards not just to students but supporters and parents. Special awards handed out were:

Junior of the year – Darcie Millar.

Teenager of the year – Ross McLean.

Adult of the year – Stuart Andrew.

Best supporting parent – Christopher Millar.

Special recognition – Isla Bain.

Most improved student – Tylor Body.

Best supporting student – Tanya McGovern.

Best attending student – shared between Danny Macleod and Stuart Andrew.

The academy has closed for the festive period with classes resuming on January 2. Students are already gearing up for competitions and more training opportunities in the new year, including the chance to represent Scotland at next year’s world championships in October in Bulgaria.

Anyone interested in attending classes and/or personal training can contact Mr Reffell on 07824429190.
