A NORTH-east trust is offering a “fantastic opportunity” for a local youngster to gain paid work experience reporting on Wick Academy matches for www.highlandleague.net.

The reporter will get free entry to the ground and will be expected to submit live information for the website’s vidiprinter before producing a match report which will feature later in the evening.

The post being offered by the Opportunity Enhancement Trust is paid on a monthly basis.

Project Manager Steven Rattray, who played for Deveronvale, Buckie Thistle, Forres Mechanics and Lossiemouth during a 13-year Highland League career, explained that the opportunity is open to students of all standards.

“We welcome students of all academic abilities and will work with them to develop their writing skills. Football is a great motivator and we have a number of techniques to help develop the students with their sentence structure and with balancing their reports,” said Rattray.

“The project has worked with well over 100 young people from across the north of Scotland since its inception 10 years ago, and can play a major role in gaining university places in the most competitive journalism courses as well as helping introduce young people to a professional, working environment in an enjoyable manner.”

He added: “The development of the young people is at the heart of our ethos and a number of 15 to 16-year-olds have seen their work feature in publications such as The Times and Sunday Times.

“Indeed our new Wick reporter will be feeding live match information that will appear on Sky Soccer Saturday on October 22 when Wick host Keith in the Scottish Cup second round.”

Interested students, parents, and guardians can contact Steven Rattray directly on 01343 842776 or srattray@mmpg.net
