Caithness Seconds travelled to the north-east at the weekend at the start of the second half of their Caley 3 North season.

The first of their post-split games saw the Yellows go down 22-7 to Aberdeen University Medics at the city's King's playing fields.

The travelling squad of 19 included a clutch of players still adapting to the rigours of senior rugby but showing a lot of promise.

Coach Cameron Boyd was not able to travel but was encouraged by feedback he received about the cohesion and commitment of his players.

"It sounds like there were a lot of pluses we could take from the game," Boyd said.

He said Medics appeared to have improved their defence from the same fixture last year which Caithness won 28-19.

The Yellows' player of the day was their combative young flanker Max Kennedy who got through a power of work in defence and attack.

Honourable mentions also go to Henry Watkinson, in what was his second ever game at prop, and the tyro centre partnership of Drew Matheson and Liam Flavell.

Matheson converted his side's late try, scored by Stuart Crichton.

Other matches on Saturday saw Inverness Craig Dunain trounce Fraserburgh 64-5 and Turriff rack up a 53-10 win at home to Aberdeenshire Seconds.

Caithness Seconds' away game against ’Shire – originally due for this Saturday – has been rearranged for April 15. Their next home fixture is against Inverness Craig Dunain on March 25.
