Everything clicked for Caithness Seconds as they produced a five-star performance in their Caley North Region Division 3 encounter at Fraserburgh.

The 40-7 win on Saturday lifted them to third in the league and builds momentum going into the second half of the season.

Tries by scrum-half Will Oag and winger Scott Mackay, one goaled by Oag, had them 12-0 ahead at the interval.

Number eight Calum Clark strong-armed his way over for the third soon after the interval.

Fraserburgh responded with a converted try before a pick-and-go by stand-off Colin Gemmill saw him over the whitewash.

Further touchdowns by flanker Craig Cannop and prop Hamish Coghill and a further four conversions from man-of-the-man Oag saw them pull clear.

Prop Ally Williams, who is sidelined with a shoulder injury, acted as coach for the side who travelled with just 15.

“I thought we put on a bit of a show,” he said. “We started brightly and we ran our systems really well.

“The biggest difference between us and them was our support play. “We always had someone on the shoulder of the runner and were ready to play the next phase.

“Our defence was also very good. They must have been in our 22 five or six times in the first half and left with nothing.

“Earning five points on the road is excellent.”

Apart from Oag, Williams praised the leadership and wholehearted effort of skipper Dave McIntosh and teenage debutant Connor Allan.

“Connor had a blinder at blindside,” Williams said.

The Yellows are at home to Skye on Saturday. The game kicks off at 2pm.
