WICK Academy manager David Kirkwood is taking nothing for granted when the club heads to the Northern Isles tomorrow for his side’s first pre-season match.

The Scorries will be playing Orkney AFA and, despite knowing very little about the opposition, Kirkwood revealed he is looking for a professional attitude from his team.

"I have been recommended one or two players from Orkney and I am looking forward to having a closer look," he said.

"The Highland League season is still three weeks away and this a great opportunity for the lads to get some valuable match practice.

"I’m not looking for anything too strenuous, but I want to try out players in different positions and experiment with new formations."

He added: "I’m still considering bringing in one or two new faces, but everyone in the squad is getting their chance to prove what they can do. As long as we get a good team performance, I will be happy."

It was announced today (Friday) Academy have arranged two more pre-season games before their Highland League campaign kicks off at home against Clachnacuddin on July 30.

A Caithness derby against old North Caledonian League rivals Thurso FC will take place at Sir George’s Park in Thurso next Saturday (July 16) at 4pm.

Academy will also face North junior division one champions Inverness City at the Highland Football Academy in Dingwall on Saturday, July 23, at 1pm.
