FOR the second successive year, two bowlers from Wick’s St Fergus Bowling Club will be representing the north of Scotland at the Scottish National Championships.

Colin Mackintosh (right) and Brian Harcus repeated their success of last year when they battled their way through the five qualifying rounds, culminating at the Highland area final hosted by their home club, where they beat the Thurso pairs team of Alan Morrison and Ronnie Bain for the right to represent District 1 at the national finals being held in Ayr this week. It’s a fairly rare achievement for the same two players to qualify for the championships in successive years. The five day competition gets underway with the Wick duo aiming to progress beyond the second round where they lost out last year. Prior to that, St Fergus last had a pairs team at the national competition in 1990 when it was represented by David MacDonald and Brian Cormack.
