Wick Academy’s Richard Macadie was honoured for his many years of loyal service to the club at a testimonial dinner at the weekend.

The function in the town’s Norseman Hotel on Saturday night was attended by around 140 people, including many of Macadie’s former team-mates and managers.

It was a big family occasion for the player as many of his relatives were present.

Guest speaker was the former Celtic, West Ham and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie. An auction raised £3800, including £650 for the final item – a replica 1987/88 Celtic shirt which McAvennie signed on the evening.

Also on the bill was Frank Robb, singer/songwriter and renowned after-dinner performer, while north football journalist Dave Edwards was master of ceremonies.

Macadie (32) has made 524 competitive appearances for Academy and is the club’s all-time top scorer with 194 goals.

His testimonial season has included a golf day and a horse-racing night, while the final event will be a match against Aberdeen on Tuesday, May 14.

Macadie’s first competitive appearance for Academy was in 2003, away to Huntly. After returning to Ross County for a spell he became a regular for the Harmsworth Park club from 2006.

The testimonial dinner followed on from Academy’s penultimate home game of the Highland League season, a 2-2 draw with Keith at Harmsworth Park.
