Wick Academy midfielder Jack Henry is recovering from surgery after suffering a double leg break in the Highland League match against Formartine on Saturday.

The Scorries were beaten 6-0 in Pitmedden but the focus of manager Gary Manson in the aftermath was the condition of the 31-year-old.

Henry was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after receiving treatment on the pitch at North Lodge Park, and Manson praised the efforts of the physio at Formartine, Jennifer Butler.

Manson said: "She was great, she took charge of the situation. We obviously thank her and thank Formartine as well."

The Scorries boss said the incident itself was not a bad challenge.

He explained: "It was just a fairly innocuous challenge, there was no malice or no fault on the Formartine boy’s behalf, it was just a coming together.

"Jack likes a tackle and he launches himself into tackles sometimes then just dusts himself off and gets on with it, but this one was just innocuous, there was nothing in it, and he must have just got really unlucky. It was a real shame."

Henry underwent surgery at the Aberdeen hospital on Sunday afternoon.
