MANAGER Gary Manson says he hopes Wick Academy can replicate their Scottish Cup run of last season after drawing Jeanfield Swifts at home in the first round later this month.

The Scorries will take on the East of Scotland Premier Division outfit at Harmsworth Park on Saturday, September 23.

Wick Academy reached the third round of the Scottish Cup last season when they defeated Lochee United 5-1 in the first round and Benburb 2-0 in the second round.

It led to a dream third round draw against League One outfit Falkirk, who ended up reaching the semi finals of the competition.

Falkirk proved too good for Wick Academy as they romped to a 6-0 win.

However, it proved to be a lucrative run for Wick as they played in front of a crowd of over 1500 against Falkirk.

Manson says the experience of last season’s Scottish Cup run will be an incentive to try to go on a similar run this season.

He said: “We were lucky last year that we managed to get three home ties. We really enjoyed our Scottish Cup run last season which culminated in our match with Falkirk which drew a huge crowd at Harmsworth Park, which is always good to see.

“The Scottish Cup is a competition which is something that we always look forward to as players and as a manager.”

Jeanfield Swifts are in second place in the East of Scotland Premier League and Manson believes it will be a tough test in the first round.

“Closer to the time, we will do our due diligence on Jeanfield Swifts.

“I have had a look at them and they are flying high in the East of Scotland League as they are in second place.

“They have won five of their seven league matches.

“While they play at a level below the Lowland League, teams at the top of the East of Scotland Premier League are usually better than most teams in the Lowland League. It will be a tough match for us.”
