WICK Academy manager Gary Manson feels it is a lucky dip at present trying to choose a team to play in the Highland League.

With the Scorries set to travel to Turriff United tomorrow afternoon, Manson says he will need to see who is available before knowing his starting 11 for sure.

Wick Academy will be looking to bounce back from their 5-2 defeat at Huntly last weekend,

Huntly cruised into a 3-0 lead and despite Wick pulling the scoreline back to 3-2 at half time, two injury time goals sealed victory for Huntly.

Manson says with the current squad situation, his squad have to continue battling on what is a difficult period for his team.

“We need to see what bodies we have available, it is like a lucky dip at the moment,” he said.

“Every Saturday, the opposition manager trying to predict our starting 11 must be having a field day.

“It is a pure lucky dip, we will see what we have and give it a good shot.”

New attacking midfielder Toby Macleod, from Orkney, featured for Wick Academy at Huntly last weekend and Manson says he has been impressed by what he has seen from him so far.

“You know what you get with Toby, he will put an absolute shift in,” he said.

“He is a physical boy, he is not the most finesse, but he is settling in fine.

“He adds a bit of strength in depth to the squad.”

Jack Halliday will be suspended for tomorrow’s match at Turriff.

He received a straight red card for a challenge on Gavin Elphinstone in the closing stages of the match at Huntly.

Manson says they can’t afford to give Turriff a big start like they gave Huntly.

“The main lesson we have learned is you can’t give away a three goal head start and expect anything out of the game.

We gave it a good go, even before they scored the fourth one, we had a decent scramble for chances we could have taken. But it wasn’t to be.”
