Thurso manager Scott Davidson has reiterated that his team must stop conceding avoidable goals if they are to move away from the foot of the North Caledonian League.

The Vikings are at home to Bonar Bridge in a basement battle on Saturday, and a win for Thurso by two or more goals would lift them off bottom spot.

Davidson will be looking for an improvement on last weekend's 3-1 defeat away to Alness United.

Goals by Declan Cooper and Shane Harkness put the Easter Ross side two up, with Cameron Montgomery reducing the deficit before half-time. Harkness made sure of the points late on.

"It was a pretty open game," Davidson said. "We were pushing forward trying to get an equaliser and they caught us on the break.

"It's just unfortunate. It was avoidable goals again.

"I said to the boys after the game it's frustrating that we're training so well, we're doing everything right prior to a Saturday, and then we're just not getting the rub of the green at the moment.

"Eventually something has got to give. We've got to stop shipping simple goals.

"We should have been looking at taking nine points from our last three games. We've played well enough but we've come away with only a point.

"It's just frustrating for everyone involved."

Bonar drew 1-1 with Inverness Athletic in a match that was also played in Alness.

"That was a very positive result for them," Davidson noted. "But we should be trying to take points every time we're at home, regardless of who we're playing.

"My challenge to the boys will be to first and foremost get a clean sheet and then try and score a few goals which would then lift us off the foot of the table.

"Bonar are kind of an unknown quantity because some weeks they're really good and some weeks they've had results that go against them. We'll be hoping to get the three points on Saturday to give us a kick-on before a run of three away games [against Golspie, Fort William and Loch Ness].

"It's going to be a tough couple of weeks for the boys, so a win on Saturday would do us no harm and would build a bit of confidence."
