A CAITHNESS rural football side could make their debut in Europe and playing in front of more than 20,000 fans against Spain’s oldest professional club.
Plans are shaping up to stage a friendly between Lybster and Recreativo de Huelva this summer in honour of the Spanish club’s founder, William Mackay, who came from the village.
A representative from Recreativo, known as Recre, has visited Lybster to discuss arrangements with officials of the Caithness Amateur Football Association Division Two champions, who are the oldest side in the county about the Caithness club to visit them this summer with the possibility of a match being played between the two sides.
