CASTLETOWN should have been in seventh heaven following their 7-0 demolition of Top Joes but boss James Robertson reckons they took their foot off the gas too early.

His side raced into 6-0 half-time lead but could not match the intensity of their first-half display and could only add one other to their total.

The win – thanks to a hat-trick from Ben Murray and two apiece from Connor Mackintosh and Chris Sutherland – moves them into second in the CAFA Division Two table.

And while Robertson was pleased with the win, there was a feeling that there were more goals to be had.

He said: “I wasn’t too surprised at the scoreline – when my players are on their game, I know exactly what they’re capable of.

“We played superbly in the first half. After half-time, I know Top Joes changed things a bit, but I feel we took our foot off the gas.

“Ben got his hat-trick which when you consider he’s a centre-half is some effort. Although I won’t be moving him up to one of the striker positions – he’s a defender first and foremost.

“The result was good and it puts us in a good position in the table. However, we will have harder teams to play.”

Top Joes’ veteran midfielder Derek Munro admitted it was a case of a bad day at the office for him and his team-mates.

He said: “It wasn’t a good day, to be honest. We’ve a lot of new faces still finding their way and we’re struggling a bit this season.

“It looks like being a long season for us but hopefully the young lads will learn quickly and results will improve.

“Castletown are a very good side. In fact, this is a strong Division Two as there are four teams there who are effectively Division One sides – I’d put Castletown in that category.”

Meanwhile, FC Retro kept up their good form with a 3-0 victory at Francis Street Club thanks to goals from Tony Miller, Jamie Howden and Alan Hughes.

Club spokesman Alan Hughes said: “We did what we had to do. They made it tough for us in the first 40 minutes but when we got our first we looked comfortable.

“Our form has picked up since that opening day 5-5 draw with Castletown but the difference is that we’ve had a full squad available to us.

“On that day, our entire back four was out suspended and we had young lads – including a 14-year-old – playing in defence.

“But we’ve got our full team now and we’re in good form.”
