THURSO eased into the second round of the Football Times Cup after going nap on hapless Bunillidh Thistle.

A brace from David Hale and further strikes via Conor Trueman, Michael Petrie and Kuba Koziol saw the Vikings cruise to a 5-0 victory.

The draw for round two has given them a home tie against North Caledonian League champions Orkney.

Vikings boss Stevie Reid said: “It’s Orkney again and although it will be tough, we’re looking forward to the tie.

“We had a good tussle with them last week and we felt we should have got something better than a draw. At least this time round, the game will be played at home.”

Of the Bunillidh encounter, Reid added: “We should have been out of sight by the interval instead of being 1-0 up.

“I told the lads we had to step up a gear for the second half and they did.”

Elsewhere in the cup, Halkirk put up a brave battle against Orkney but they found the islanders too strong to deal with.

Chris Hellewell, Sam Hunter and Connor Macintosh were on target for Orkney with Chris Simpson grabbing Halkirk’s goal.

Golspie Sutherland will have a home tie against Nairn County under-20s after goals from Robbie Murray and Graeme MacNab (2) earned them a 3-1 victory against Inverness Athletic.

In the North Caledonian League, Darran Goller struck four times to help Invergordon to a 5-2 win over St Duthus.
