Thurso suffered their 11th defeat in a row in the North Caledonian League when they were thumped 7-1 by Clachnacuddin “A” at the Dammies.

The Vikings went into Saturday’s game knowing that three points would have lifted them above the Lilywhites’ reserves into 10th place in the 12-team division.

However, they found themselves five down at half-time after goals by Ethan McGoran (2), Ewan McArthur and Struan Coli (2) for the visitors.

Hashem Alsharaydeh and Ross Peters added two more for Clach in the second period either side of a Kian Mackay strike.

Mackay’s effort ended a Thurso goal drought that had gone on for some 600 minutes – approximately 10 hours of football.

After that, the Vikings will welcome Bunillidh Thistle to the Dammies before rounding off their season with a trip to Invergordon.

Halkirk United, who had no game last weekend, will be looking to stay at the top of the table – for the time being at least – when they visit fourth-placed Inverness Athletic.

Invergordon hammered Athletic 6-0 last Saturday as the reigning champions reduced the gap to three points.

Invergordon still have two games in hand on the Anglers, and a superior goal difference.

Athletic conceded six again in midweek. They were beaten 6-5 by Fort William in a remarkable encounter at Alness on Tuesday night.

Halkirk United have a North Caledonian Cup tie against Alness on March 15 and their last league match will be at home to Orkney.
