Thurso boss Stevie Reid has ruled himself out of the race to see who will replace Tom McKenna in the Wick Academy dugout.

Reid's work with the North Caledonian League side has not gone unnoticed but he will not be mailing in an application to Harmsworth Park.

McKenna's shock departure has led to speculation as to who will step in, with Reid's name – along with ex-Scorries boss Peter Budge and former Academy player Gary Campbell, who is in charge of North Caledonian leaders Invergordon – being mentioned.

But Reid is not ready to jump ship yet.

He said: "The Wick Academy job is not for me. I have my hands tied with Thurso and I'm happy to continue my current duties with them.

"So I would have to say 'no' – not at this moment in time.

"I was quite surprised to hear the news that Tom had gone. He's a good guy and a good coach too who is also very well qualified.

"If he's at a loose end or wants to pop along to help us out at Thurso in training, we'd be delighted to see him.

You've got some outsiders that might be worth a look at.

"As for who could step in and succeed him at Academy, there are some good coaches who could do the job.

"Peter Budge's name is getting a lot of mentions. He's a good guy with a lot of experience with his years away with Ross County and the SFA.

"I don't know, having done the job twice before, if he would be willing to have a third crack at the Wick job, though.

"Gary Campbell would be a good shout as well – and I don't say that in order to weaken our league rivals Invergordon.

"He's done a fantastic job at Invergordon and he used to play for Academy too.

"You've got some outsiders that might be worth a look at. Ewan McElroy has done a remarkable job at Halkirk United since he's come in.

"Gary Manson could make the step up from Wick Academy player to Wick Academy manager and I wouldn't count out Kevin Anderson.

"Kevin has done a superb job in the county league with Wick Groats and he could be in with a shout should he decide to make the step up."
