Scorers - Cove: Redford (6) Scully (58) Johnson (60) Wick: D Allan (35)

Wick Academy dropped from top spot in the Highland League as Cove Rangers recorded a 3-1 win to claim pole position in the title race.

The Aberdonians now lead the Caithness club by a point and got off to the perfect start after only six minutes.

Michael Gray made a good save knocking a Jordan Leyden shot around the post for a corner. Alan Redford drifted off Grant Steven and headed the ball from the cross into the roof of the net from 10 yards out.

Wick equalised on 35 minutes when Craig Shearer sent Gary Weir off on an attacking run.

Davie Allan powered past two defenders as Weir laid the ball into his path. Keeper Stuart McKenzie tried to narrow the angle but Allan kept his cool and slotted home inside the left post with his left foot from 12 yards out for his 7th league goal of the season.

The game was decided during a three minute spell in the second half when Connor Scully scored after heading in a cross from the right wing on 58 minutes.

Two minutes later against the run of play, Martin Johnston put the home side further in front after slotting home a cross inside Michael Gray's right hand post.

Wick Academy face Strathspey Thistle at Harmsworth Park next Saturday while Cove Rangers travel to Buckie Thistle.
