THURSO Bowling Club held the Highland Triples last Saturday in which there were 18 teams taking part.

The first semi-final pitted Jillian Tewnion, Esther Campbell and Brian Tewnion against John Ross, Allan Hourston and Judy Mowat.

Although Judy and co had played well to reach the semi they found Brian’s trio just too strong and came off second best.

The second semi was a closer affair with Brian Mutch, Ken Rippon and Ricky McMahon leading Julie Knapp, Peter Knapp and Marina Bain for most of the game but the last two ends were decisive with Julie, Peter and Marina taking them to edge past the finishing line.

The final was again a very tight game with Brian and co taking an early lead and Marina’s triple closing the gap to 10-7 after 12 ends. Alas, they could not keep the pressure up with Jillian, Esther and Brian picking up a four and a three over the next two ends to lift the Highland Triples title for 2012.

The Thurso men’s top 10 team will be in action on Sunday when it travels to the Waterloo club in Inverness. This will be tough game away for the new-look team which was forced into some late changes.

Tomorrow Janet Sinclair and Cath Irons begin their bid for singles glory along with Jackie and Lynne Swanson in the pairs. The domestic season continues as well with the club singles taking place.
