Thurso's Cameron Montgomery has been named as the North Caledonian FA's young player of the year for 2021/22.

The 19-year-old winger helped the Vikings win the Football Times Cup in November, scoring the opening goal in the final against Halkirk which Thurso went on to win on penalties.

Montgomery earned the end-of-season North Caledonian accolade for his pacy and skilful attacking play despite being sidelined by injury for part of the campaign.

Thurso manager Michael Bremner said: "We are delighted for him and hopefully he'll be even better for us next year."

The Vikings struggled with their league form for a while but recovered well towards the end of the season and finished seventh in the 11-team division.

There was a double success for Golspie striker Liam Bremner, who picked up the awards for North Caledonian player of the year and top goalscorer.
