THURSO has been chosen as the last-minute host of a Scottish surfing competition after the event was forced to change from its original location.

The Gathering of the Clans will take place at Thurso East where the top surfers in Scotland will compete on Saturday and Sunday.

The event was originally meant to take place at Belhaven in East Lothian but, due to poor surfing conditions, the Scottish Surfing Federation announced on Wednesday night the event was being switched to Caithness.

The event will be seen as a warm up for the UK Surf Pro Tour which takes place over three days next Thursday.
