The inaugural Top 4 Open hosted by Wick’s Rosebank Bowling Club was hailed as “a huge success” at the weekend.

A total of 64 bowlers from all Caithness clubs took part in the two-day competition and quite a few teams have already booked for next year’s event.

Winners were the Thurso Bowling Club team of Alec Mackay, Henny Henderson, Marina Bain and Alan Morrison, who picked up a cheque for £800.

Runners-up were the Rosebank team of Kirsteen Bremner and dad William, along with Paul McNeil and Mark Thain.

The format consisted of teams of four with one bowler playing singles, two pairs matches, one triples and one rinks.

The weather was overcast but thankfully rain stayed away.

Rosebank Bowling Club’s Sharon Rosie said: “It was a huge success, with a good standard of bowls played throughout the weekend. Everyone enjoyed it and it was lovely to see lots of spectators too.”

Sponsors for the event were Achairn Energy Limited, Subsea7 and Ashley Ann. Club president Scott Christie made the presentations.
