Thurso swimmers ranked among top 25 in Scotland

THURSO Amateur Swimming Club has six swimmers who are ranked among the top 25 swimmers in Scotland.
Following last month’s Scottish National Age Group Championships in Aberdeen, Euan MacDonald, Lewis Sutherland, Louis Pickering, Katie Mackay, Erin McDonald and Emma Mill were all ranked among the country’s 25 fastest swimmers in their respective age groups.
Mark McCoustra, Jack Gunn, Alex Mackay and Lucy McDonald have also represented the club at long course over this period and have moved up their respective national age group rankings, having regularly achieved personal best.
Euan, Mark, Lewis, Jack, Erin, Lucy and Emma all qualified to compete in the North District Championship in Aberdeen. There were many excellent times posted and several of the team came through the heats to make finals.
Euan won silver in the 50m fly and bronze in the 100m fly while Erin achieved bronze in the 50m fly and 50m free.
Euan, Erin, Alex, Lewis and Emma also qualified to compete in the Scottish National Age Group championship, again in Aberdeen, over four days, and all performed to a very high standard in this elite event which attracted entries from all over the UK.
The club will again have representation at the country’s premier swimming events at the Scottish Open in Aberdeen in June and in the Scottish summer meet in Edinburgh in July
Last month’s Scottish National long course time rankings for the past 12 months were (top 25 ranking position in brackets): Euan Macdonald 15 years 50m fly (12) and 100m fly (23).
Louis Pickering 13 years 50m free (23).
Lewis Sutherland 12 years 100m free (24); 50m breaststroke (6); 100m breaststroke (8); 50m back (12); 200m back (11);and 200m individual medley (18).
Katie Mackay 17 years 50m free (11); 100m free (16); 50m fly (12); 100m fly (13); 50m breaststroke (22); 50m back (17); and 100m back (25).
Erin McDonald 17 years 50m free (17); 50m fly (9); 100m fly (16); 50m breaststroke (14); and 100m breaststroke (21).
Emma Mill 12 years 50m free (8); 100m free (12); 200m free (21); 50m fly (3); 100m fly (2); 50m breaststroke (13); 100m breaststroke (9); 200m breaststroke (8); 50m back (12); 100m back (14); 200m back (13); 200m IM (10); and 400m IM (7).
