Five members of Thurso Amateur Swimming Club – Keira Bain, Tom Armitage, Megan Mackay, Jed Armitage and Emily MacDougall – qualified to swim in 37 individual races between them at the Glasgow International Swim Meet at Tollcross, helping them gain valuable long course race experience.

As well as teams from Scotland, including Duncan Scott and Katie Shanahan, there were teams from England, Ireland, Denmark, New Zealand and others at the three-day event.

Megan started the racing off with a great 100m fly, just finishing outside her personal best. Over the course of the three days Megan swam in six races, gaining valuable experience and coming close to all her PBs.

Keira also competed in the 100m fly. She had a strong second 50m swim, managing to gain a new long course PB. Keira swam in six more races over the weekend, having some strong swims and gaining PBs in 50m back and 50m free.

Emily, the youngest swimmer from the club making the trip, aged 13, competed in six swims. Her strongest was the 200m back, making the junior final and finishing in seventh position. Emily gained long course PBs in her 50m back, 50m free and 200m free.

Jed had eight swims over the weekend, gaining great PBs in 50m fly, 100m back and 100m free.

The highlight of Jed’s weekend was making the 200m back junior final along with his older brother Tom. It was a special achievement for two brothers from the same club to reach a final together.

Tom finished third while Jed was 10th.

Tom had a busy schedule with 10 swims over the weekend. He also got to the 100m back junior final, finishing in fourth place, along with a fine 400 IM swim making the "B" final, gaining a PB and finishing in ninth place.

Tom also gained PBs with his 100m fly, 50m breaststroke and 50m fly.
