Thurso High School's S1 netball team lost out narrowly in their first competitive match in the knockout stage of the Scottish Cup after they travelled to Aberdeen to play Robert Gordon's College.

Thurso got off to a nervous start in the first quarter and finished it two goals behind. They came back in the second quarter, playing some excellent netball and ending the quarter tied.

The experience of Robert Gordon's College showed in the third quarter as they extended their lead.

Thurso gave it their all in the final quarter but the greater experience of their opponents proved too much. The result was 9-5 to the Aberdeen team, putting Thurso out of the competition.

Coach Seonaid MacDonald said: "The Thurso girls all had an excellent game, with Ellie Powell being awarded player of the match for her fantastic long-range shooting. They learned a lot from the match and can't wait for their next fixture."
