Manager Michael Bremner admits Thurso need more firepower after back-to-back home defeats in the North Caledonian League.

The Vikings have had a number of key players missing at various points so far this season and have been lacking a cutting edge in recent games.

They were thumped 5-0 by Alness United at the Dammies on Saturday, following on from a 2-1 loss to Golspie the previous week, and have slipped to 10th in the 13-team division.

Next up is a tough-looking assignment against St Duthus at Grant Park this weekend.

The teams met in a Football Times Cup quarter-final at the Dammies last month when St Duthus ran out 3-1 winners.

"They are a cracking team," Bremner said. "We're looking forward to it and hopefully we'll get a few boys back in.

"We're struggling for personnel. We've got a massive squad but we have a few with injuries and a few with different things on.

“We can never get the same team twice.

"We need to get more firepower up front. I've got plenty of other positions, it's just getting forwards in.

“Hopefully we will get it sorted out.”

Bremner was unavailable for last weekend's game against Alness, with coach Scott Davidson taking charge.

“We were short again – it's the same old story every week," Bremner said. "I spoke to Scott after it and I think it was the worst performance yet.

“Fair play to Alness, they've beaten Invergordon this year as well. They've improved a lot this year."

Thurso's Rob McLean was sent off 10 minutes into the second half, by which time the Easter Ross men were two up courtesy of Callum Coli and Jude Fraser. Alexander Mackay added a double before Michael Mackenzie rounded off the scoring in the dying stages.

Regarding the sending off, Bremner added: “He is adamant the second yellow card shouldn't have been given.”
