Thurso Harrier strides out in Turkey Trot

NORTH Highland Harrier Lorna Stanger, Thurso, was the only Caithness runner taking part in the annual Turkey Trot – a 10-mile road race at Lossiemouth – on Sunday. The race, which incorporates the North District championship, is organised by Moray Road Runners. It attracted a total entry of 130, comprising 80 men and 50 women.

Lorna, who was taking part in her first road race over 10 miles, was third-placed woman in the Turkey Trot and came home with a bronze in the North District championship and a silver in the North District masters.

She took 68.08 minutes to cover the course which was run through the streets of Lossiemouth and then out into the countryside, skirting RAF Lossiemouth, before finishing back in the town. First-placed woman was Louise Cartmell with a time of 65.56 while second went to Elizabeth Jenkins with 66.12.

Both are members of Moray Road Runners.

The first man home was Gordon Lennox, of Forres Harriers, in a time of 55.32.
