Thurso native Gary Mackay-Steven returns to the Highlands after signing on for Ross County’s Championship title charge

Ross County have confirmed the signing of Gary Mackay-Steven on a one-year contract.

The twice-capped Scotland international was available after leaving Kilmarnock, having previously turned out for the likes of Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and New York City.

He is also returning to familiar surroundings, having played in the Staggies’ academy until the age of 17, when he left to join Liverpool.

County manager Don Cowie commented: “Gary is another great addition to the group as he makes his return to the club.

“He offers us good experience in the wide area of the pitch and we are delighted he has chosen to head back up north for the next chapter of his career.”

Mackay-Steven is the second signing of Ross County’s transfer window so far, following the arrival of another former Scotland player in the shape of defender Declan Gallagher.
