James Murray put the Vikings in the lead midway through the second half before Connor Macleod killed off the game with his strike in injury time to keep all three points in Caithness.

Manager Michael Bremner says his players produced an excellent performance against Golspie to finally move off the bottom of the table after what has been a difficult season for the club.

“It was a cracking result when the boys played really well,” said Bremner.

“It moves us off the bottom of the table which we have been hoping for quite a while.

“It is great that we have finally managed to get off the bottom of the table.

“Now we are only looking upwards in the final few games we have to play this season.”

The victory moved Thurso up to ninth with three games remaining and three points off Nairn County A in seventh place who have completed their season.

Bremner says seventh place is now the target for Thurso and to end the season on a high.

“It has been a hard campaign, especially as I also took over halfway through the season.

“There were injuries that we had to cope with but once we got everyone back, I knew we would get back to winning ways.

“The last few games have been good for us.”

Thurso continue their league campaign against Alness United at the Dammies on Saturday

They are also due to face Bonar Bridge in Golspie on Wednesday night before completing their season at home to Inverness Athletic on Saturday, April 9.

Elsewhere, Invergordon could win the league if they beat Orkney at Recreation Park in their final game.
