Caithness Seconds capped off a long and demanding campaign with a third successive win, away to Turriff.

The 22-10 bonus-try success was their first achieved on the road and signalled the progress they have made since a 64-19 reverse at The Haughs in September.

The Yellows' season lasted more than two months longer than that of the 1st XV and, for the first time, they played and won more games than the Greens.

On Saturday, they were never behind as they subdued a feisty home side. A dominant scrum gave the Yellows an edge while they had a cutting edge to their attacks, which yielded four tries.

The opening score fell to visiting winger Duncan Mackay who got on the end of a well-executed midfield exchange to touch down near the left corner flag.

The second fell to back-rower Sinclair Bremner, who picked up from the base of an advancing scrum to power over the line. He beat a couple of defenders in-goal to make the conversion, which he himself kicked, more straightforward.

Winger Sean Johnston was next to race clear after a long spell of pressure.

Turriff replied midway through the second half with two unconverted tries to reduce the leeway to 17-10.

But Cameron Boyd's men were soon celebrating the bonus point when they won a scrum against the head and scrum-half Jack Floydd jinked past his counterpart before burning off two would-be cover defenders to touch down.

"I'm so proud of all of them," Boyd said. "It was a performance we knew we had in us as a group.

"The attitude of the whole squad was brilliant and they celebrated every success.

"It was a pretty physical shift from them and they put Turriff under pressure in all areas of the game."

Floydd picked up the Caithness man-of-the-man award but Boyd singled out rookie prop Henry Watkinson for the strides he has made since taking up the game earlier this season.

Caithness sit top of the Caledonia North Region 3 "B" table after winning three and losing one of their matches.

Both Aberdeen Medics and Craig Dunain can overhaul them if either win their two respective outstanding fixtures with bonus points.
