WICK Thistle closed the gap on CAFA Division Two leaders Castletown to one point with a thumping 4-0 win over FC Retro.

While it wasn’t a replica of their 10-0 rout over the same opponents a fortnight ago, this was still a convincing display by Thistle who have bagged 22 goals in their past three games.

Ross McLeod netted a superb hat-trick, with Steven Budge getting Thistle’s other goal.

Retro, who must have thought they had arrested their drop in form last Friday when goals from Jack Steven and Albert Pajak gave them a 2-0 win at Top Joes, have their promotion hopes hanging by a thread as they slip to fifth.

High Ormlie Hotspur’s young guns kept up their own promotion bid as they beat Keiss 1-0 thanks to John Barclay’s goal. It keeps them level on points with Thistle but third in the table due to the latter’s superior goal difference.

Thurso Pentland were in seventh heaven as they leapfrogged over Retro into fourth spot with a 7-0 demolition of bottom-of-the-table Francis Street Club.

Pentland’s scorers were Michael Macintosh (2), Darryn Mackay (2), John Maclean (2) and Kieran Campbell.

Top Joes finally got their first win of the season with 3-0 at Watten, courtesy of Ross Sutherland and Martin Murray (2).
