Tewnions step up a gear to win inaugural mixed rinks at Thurso
There was a victory for the home club in a new mixed rinks competition that Thurso Bowling Club hopes to be hosting for many years to come.
Ten teams from across the Highlands took part in the tournament, played over the first weekend of September.
The Saturday kicked off with league games. The winners and runners-up of each league would go on to play in a knockout format on the Sunday.
There was a great atmosphere on and off the green throughout the weekend, culminating in a final between a family-affair Thurso team and a team from Wick's Rosebank club.
After a sunny but breezy day on the Saturday, the continuous rain on Sunday made for a soggy end to the competition. However, the conditions did not deter the finalists and they played some outstanding bowls.
It was nip-and-tuck until the final few ends when the Thurso team – Jill Tewnion, Jillian Tewnion, Nigel Tewnion and Brian Tewnion – stepped up a gear and secured the win.
