MANAGER Gary Manson is challenging Wick Academy to get through a tough run in March and set themselves up for a surge up the table in April to end the season on a high note.

The Scorries look to get back into action tomorrow when they travel to Pitmedden to face Formartine United.

A home match against bottom of the table Strathspey Thistle follows on Wednesday before trips to Brechin City and Brora Rangers round off the month.

Wick then finish off their campaign in April against teams in the bottom half of the table, where Manson is confident they can take the majority of points.

But Academy are languishing in 15th place in the league, only two points above Deveronvale and Keith.

However, they are within touching distance of Clachnacuddin, Keith and Turriff United with games in hand on the three teams above.

Manson admitted it has been a disappointing campaign, but a good run of results in the final 10 matches will be seen a positive end to the season.

“We need to get as many points as we can before the end of the season,” he said.

“Our next two Saturdays are Formartine United and Brechin City away with Brora Rangers this month too.

“If we get through Formartine, Brechin, Strathspey Thistle and Brora Rangers this month, in April we play Deveronvale, Turriff, Huntly, Keith and Lossiemouth.

“The run to the end of the season isn’t too bad, if we pick up points until the end of the campaign we can end on a positive note.”

Midfielder Jack Halliday is missing for tomorrow’s clash as he is on holiday in Australia.

James Mackintosh and Sean Munro are also unavailable for tomorrow’s clash.

Manson says Wick have had disappointing results, losing 7-1 to Brora Rangers and 6-0 to Fraserburgh both at Harmsworth Park.

He says the players will be looking to produce improved performances.

“Against Brora Rangers, we had to hold our hands up,” said Manson. “They were very good on the night, in the first half we competed well but in the second half they blew us away.

“We played against a better calibre of player and they were outstanding.

“We are not in the best of form, if we can go and pull off a good start to the end of the season for us.

“We just need a 90 minute performance. The Scottish Cup aside it has been a disappointing campaign for us and we need another positive this season.”
