Tamzin Rosie is again to represent Scotland after being called up to play in the Six Nations under-18 women’s rugby festival in England which gets under way this weekend.

The 18-year-old scrum-half from Reiss retained her place in the squad after impressing in the inter-district championship and the national trials.

Tamzin has this season turned out for Caithness under-18s as well as playing a handful of games for the senior Krakens.

She has also been on a strength and conditioning programme jointly run by Scottish Rugby and SportScotland.

Club coach Sinclair Dunnett said: “Tamzin stood out for Caley in the inter-districts and also impressed at the trials. She has a very good all-round game and always gives her all.”

Tamzin is the only member of the 28-strong squad based north of Stirling.

She headed off on Thursday ahead of the age-grade tournament at Wellington College in Berkshire, in which Scotland will play five matches in eight days.

Coached by Lindsey Smith, the young Scots will play four 35-minute matches, starting with a clash versus Wales on Friday. They will then face France, England and Ireland before ending with a 70-minute match against Italy on Saturday, April 19.

Tamzin, who celebrated her 18th birthday on April 4, is in her final year at Wick High and will be heading off after the summer to take up a place at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.

Smith said: “This festival is really exciting but it will definitely be challenging and means we can test ourselves against the best players from the other unions and help progress our players through the pathway.

“The five fixtures give us an opportunity to give everyone game time and exposure to international rugby. Finishing on the 70-minute fixture gives us something to build towards throughout the week.

“Our preparation over the last few months and providing a regular training environment through the regional training centres will put the players in a better position than years gone by.”

All the U18 international matches are to be broadcast live on Scottish Rugby’s website.

Caithness under-18s lost out 36-7 in the final of the Saltire Energy Caledonia Cup against Stirling County.

The junior Krakens got off to a flier and had several gilt-edged opportunities to add to their early converted try. But they faded as the game wore on as County took control and ended up winning with something to spare.

The match was played during the youth finals at Countesswells playing fields at Robert Gordon’s College, Aberdeen, on March 30.
