Two members of Wick Amateur Swimming Club had a successful trip to the Scottish National Age Group Championships (SNAGs) at the 50-metre Aberdeen Aquatics Centre.

SNAGS is a prestigious event that draws the best swimmers from amateur clubs across Scotland, as well as from England and as far afield as Dubai. It was held from April 10-14.

Nebi Senguler (14) and Eva Robertson (15), both pupils at Wick High School, secured personal bests over the course of the meet.

Eva made it to the finals in both 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke, achieving overall placings of seventh and fifth respectively, as well as a long-course personal best time for her 100m breaststroke.

Nebi had long-course personal bests in a remarkable seven events, making it to the finals in four: 50m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle.

To add to this success, he secured bronze in both 100m butterfly and 100 backstroke.

Club committee member and poolside helper Siony Mackintosh said: “This is an amazing achievement for our swimmers and is testament to the dedication shown by both, as well as their coaches.

“We are incredibly proud to have such fantastic role models in our club.”

Eva and Nebi have recently been elected club captains and this was their first event competing in their new roles. They supported the younger club members in the Inverness Graded Meet at the end of March.
