Thurso Amateur Swimming Club held its annual club gala prize-giving at the town's Royal British Legion club.

The club holds its eagerly anticipated swimming gala in December each year following a round of qualifiers in November and it is the only event in the calendar where all members of the club compete for the various championship trophies.

Nigel Scott, Scottish Amateur Swimming Association chairman and father of Olympic and world champion swimmer Duncan Scott, attended the gala finals and enjoyed the show put on by the swimmers. He agreed to present the younger swimmers with their beginners' width and beginners' length certificates.

For the gala prize-giving, club secretary Neil McDonald presented the swimmers with their medals and trophies.

Club president Robbie Campbell said later: "We enjoyed an excellent turnout of swimmers this year. They put on a great competition with many close-fought contests throughout the various events.

"The standard of competition is testament to the many hours of hard work that all swimmers and coaches put in throughout the year and we look forward to seeing all swimmers push on to new heights in the coming year."
