Swanson scores a personal best in Caithness time trial
In Caithness Cycling Club’s weekly 10-mile time trial, all seven riders posted their best times of the year – although conditions were hardly ideal at just 11C and with a strong westerly wind of 15 to 26 mph.
Stuart Swanson was again fastest and scored a personal best time of 24 min 53 sec, while Iain Miller improved his 2025 time by 52 seconds to clock 25.57, putting him 28 seconds ahead of Alistair Miller in third place.
It was the first ride of the year for Gary Angus and he did well to slash a massive 88 seconds off his 2024 time.
Iain Miller now leads the very close handicap league with 16 points, just one point ahead of Stuart Swanson. Roger Broughton is third a mere half-point in arrears.
Times: 1 Stuart Swanson (road bike), 24 min 53 sec; 2 Iain Miller, 25.57; 3 Alistair Miller, 26.25; 4 Roger Broughton, 27.09; 5 Alasdair Washington, 29.05; 6 Gary Angus, 29.18; 7 Martine Hughes (road bike), 34.16.

Only five riders braved the strong wind and low temperature last Thursday for Wick Wheelers’ latest 10-mile time trial.
Facing the wind on the outward leg before a wind-assisted return led to everyone’s times being slower.
Stuart Anderson was a comfortable winner but even he was about one-and-a-half minutes down on his best this season.
Newcomer Rhys Evans did well in his first time trial on a non -aero bike to finish third.
Times: 1 Stuart Anderson, 24 min 01 sec; 2 James Munro, 30.50; 3 Rhys Evans, 32.13; 4 Kev Stewart, 32.24; 5 Yvonne Richard, 33.31.
