Sutherland sets personal best in national race debut
The course is based at Freuchie and a tailwind on the initial downhill section made for a rapid start on the fast course. This was the Thurso rider’s first national championship, which attracted 150 of the country’s best short distance riders, and he did well to finish in 46th place.
Race winner was Paisley’s Ben Peacock who stormed round at almost 30mph to beat former champion Arthur Doyle by seven seconds. Silas Goldsworthy, who has dominated north time trials this year, was just 27 seconds down in fifth.
Results: 1 B. Peacock (Paisley Velo RT) 20min 14sec. 2 A. Doyle (Dooleys Cycles) 20.21. 3 I. Grant (Dooleys Cycles) 20.27. 4 A. Thomson (Sandy Wallace Cycles) 20.29. 5 S. Goldsworthy (SWC), 20.41; 46. A. Sutherland (CCC) 22.54. First north rider was Callum Finlayson (Forres) in 21. 24.
