Sutherland becomes fourth men's winner of Angus Ross memorial trophy
University student Aidan Sutherland has become the fourth man to lift the precious Angus Ross memorial darts trophy.
Sutherland, representing the Norseman Hotel, came out on top in this week's Wick and District Darts League competition in Harper's Bar and Function Suite – the first time it had taken place since Covid.
He follows in the footsteps of Tam Mulraine (2017), Martin Nicolson (2018) and Kevin Macgregor (2019).
Sutherland's opponent in the final was Smiddy Inn player Richard Thain.
Richard had beaten David Simpson (Village Inn), Willie McLean (Norseman) and Wick league singles champion Stewart Tait (Seaview) with a cheeky 110 outshot (15, 57, 38).

Sutherland had gt the better of Seaview's Kevin Macgregor (3-2) and Castletown's Willie Plank (3-2) before winning 3-1 in the final.
Kevin Macgregor hit the only maximum, while Thain's 110 finish was the only ton-plus checkout.
Freda Perry retained the ladies' trophy she had previously won in 2018 and 2019.
Seaview's Meganne Shearer was the inaugural winner.
Perry won 3-2 against Seaforth team-mate Kara Sutherland, who hit 12 ton-plus scores in the event.
Sammy Troy and Alison Tait were losing semi-finalists.
Organisers were disappointed by the number of men's entries but said the ladies had been "fantastic" in supporting every event all season.
