DESPITE the weather at the weekend, Caithness Pony Club had a successful trip to the North Cup which was hosted this year by Ross-shire Pony Club at Scotsburn.

Overnight rain on Saturday meant that conditions were not ideal the next morning and sadly it was decided that the cross country phase of the event would not go ahead due to safety reasons.

The competition was run on Sunday as a combined training with just the dressage and showjumping counting towards the overall scores.

Winning the 60cm section and achieving the best dressage in her arena was Leoni Kennedy, riding Popalbee Minnie Mouse, while Erin Hewitson was fourth with Tinkerbelle, owned by Donna Mather.

Erin was fourth again in the 70cm, this time riding her own pony, Spencer, and Morven Mackenzie, riding Atlantic Tiffany, was second in the 80cm class.

Representing the club in the 100cm class was Andreas Ramsøy, riding Hinkelien, who came third after a clear showjumping round. Liam Mackenzie also took part in the 70cm section with Henry.

The competition was open to non Pony Club members with local event rider Meghan Blackwood winning the 80cm section with her young horse Just Bob. After a clear showjumping round they ended on a dressage score of 33.3.

It was also a good end to the season for local event rider Jean Gunn who won the open 100cm section, and received the best dressage rosette with her own Diamond Gypsy Jo.
