A great afternoon session provided the platform for Allan Macleod to come out on top in Harpsdale Fishery Park's Spring Open.

The competition, sponsored by Caithness Scaffolding Contractors Ltd, was held earlier this month in good conditions.

The day got off to a positive start with Kevin Imlach landing the first fish within the opening two minutes, followed closely by Darrin Limond, Tony Fraser and Billy Thomson.

Allan's strong showing in the afternoon saw him emerge as winner, followed closely by runner-up Gary Ferguson.

Placings: 1 Allan Macleod; 2 Gary Ferguson; 3 Darrin Limond; 4eq Kevin Imlach and Stuart Campbell.

First fish landed: Kevin Imlach. Heaviest fish: Robert Cormack. Junior champion: Sean Redmond.

Harpsdale Fishery Park's Alan Sutherland said: "We would like to thank everyone who attended the competition, some coming from as far afield as Huntly and Invergordon, as well as the continued support from our regulars who make the whole thing possible.

"Special thanks to Caithness Scaffolding Contractors Ltd for sponsoring the event, and also Highland Workwear."
