Staxigoe take on Thistle for Colin Macleod Memorial Cup

TWO Wick teams will go head-to-head in Castletown on Saturday (June 11) in the battle to claim the first county soccer spoils of the season.

The inaugural Colin Macleod Memorial Cup will go to the winners of Staxigoe United against Wick Thistle.

United, who have knocked out Wick Groats and Pentland United, will start as slight favourites. But the division one side will square up to a youthful Jags who have racked up 24 goals in winning their first five matches in the second flight.

United defeated Halkirk 2-1 to book their place in the final. Thistle, meanwhile, came through their semi with a 1-0 win over Acks at the Dammies.

Staxigoe United 2, Halkirk 1

Acks 0, Wick Thistle 1

Eain Mackintosh Cup, first round:

FSC 2, Top Joe’s 7

Second round:

Pentland United 6, John O’Groats 1

Swifts 0, Wick Groats 5

Staxigoe United 8, Top Joe’s 0

Thurso Pentland 1, Castletown 0

Division two:

Lybster 3, Top Joe’s 4.
