Caithness 2nd XV were on Saturday unable to repeat the heroics that saw them beat Caley 3 North Highland champions Kinloss Eagles in Thurso.

The 34-22 reverse at the start of October was one of only two losses suffered by the Moray men en route to topping the division.

The Yellows were short-handed for the return match and were grateful to Highland for loaning them six of their Fijian players based at Fort George.

The latter ended up facing a handful of their Army compatriots who turned out for Kinloss.

The composite side lost 54-17 with their tries coming from two of their Fijians and Ruaridh Mackay.

Russell Mill, who was in charge of the visiting squad in the absence of unavailable coach Cameron Boyd, had no complaints.

He said: "Kinloss are a very good side and the Fijians in their backline were exceptional – they were easily National League level.

"We played well and took a lot from the game."

The Yellows have two remaining games in the division – at home to Turriff on January 28 and the twice-postponed double-header against Stornoway in Invergordon on February 4.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Aberdeenshire 2nd XV won 63-15 against Aberdeen University Medics 17-10.
