MANAGER Gary Manson is determined Wick Academy produce good performances in their final three matches of the season to cement their place in the top half of the Highland League.

The Scorries travel down to Inverurie Locos tomorrow afternoon for an early 2pm kick-off as they look to bounce back from their 5–0 thrashing in Fraserburgh last weekend.

Wick Academy lie in eighth place in the Highland League, two points ahead of Nairn County with both teams having three matches remaining.

Eighth is the best Wick Academy can achieve this season, as they lie 19 points behind Inverurie Locos who are one place above them in seventh.

A top-half finish in the Highland League would be considered a success for the Scorries, says Manson, who is looking to finish off the campaign on a high note in their final matches this month.

“I have never known a season like it with the number of injuries that we have had or players missing through suspensions, injury or Covid.

“It has been a real challenge to get a consistent squad every Saturday.

“We have had to make up to six changes every week and it has been a struggle to get any kind of consistency going with selection.

“So if we manage to finish in eighth place then we have to view on it as a successful season.”

Wick Academy had a tough start to the campaign, failing to win their first nine matches, drawing seven of those before beating Fort William in October.

But their form has improved as the season has gone on which Manson gave full credit to his squad for achieving.

“At the start there were games we should have been winning and it put us on the back foot.

“But we recovered with eight wins out of nine over the festive period. But it has been a squad in transition.”
