THE top surfers from Scotland are to return to Thurso East to compete in the 2016 Scottish Surfing Championships this weekend.

The venue, which has been ranked as the number one surfing destination in the UK, will last over the course of the next three days with a strong Caithness contingent expected to challenge for the major prizes.

Current Scottish open champion Chris Noble, from Scrabster, will be aiming to win his seventh national title but faces strong opposition from Thurso surfers Mark Boyd and Andrew Macleod.

Last year it was a clean sweep for Caithness as Shoana Blackadder from Thurso won the Scottish women’s title; Chris Clarke from Dunnet won the Scottish longboard championship, and Iona McLachlan from Murkle won the Scottish youth championship.
