FOR the third time in two months Wick Academy got the better of Clachnacuddin, but tonight's 2-0 win in Inverness was arguably the most important result of the season so far.

After winning their home encounter at Harmsworth Park, where they also knocked Clach out of the North of Scotland Cup quarter final, Gordon Connelly said before the game he would have been happy with a point at Grant Street Park.

But the players had other ideas as they took the lead just after the half hour mark through Davie Allan.

Grant Steven doubled the visitors advantage on the hour mark as Academy looked good value for the win.

Clachnacuddin had a goal disallowed after Wick goalkeeper Sean McCarthy was deemed to be fouled in the process as he went on to keep his second clean sheet in two games.

After a tough run of ten fixtures, eight of which were against teams in the top end of the table, Academy have won seven out of ten to find themselves in fifth place, five points off league leaders Brora Rangers.

Six of Wick Academy's next seven games are against teams in the bottom seven which could see the Scorries spring a surprise title challenge if they pick up at least 18 out of 21 points.

Wick Academy's next seven games are: Keith (H) Strathspey (A) Rothes (H) Huntly (A) Nairn (A) Lossie (H) Fort William (H)
