As with all good events, the interest in the Castle of Mey 10k continues to increase and the race organisers and North Highland Harriers (NHH) are proud of the reputation it attracts.

With only 25 places left to reach the maximum of 600 runners, the event is building up to be as successful as previous events and, with north district championship medals on offer, this can only add to the excitement on the day.

Among the runners, the organisers are delighted to have Ron Peddie back at the Castle of Mey 10k. He was part of the original organising group that was set up for the inaugural event in 2009.

Ron is a somewhat seasoned runner but for newer competitors, here are some general pieces of advice to consider as you enter the last couple of weeks training:

* If you have done the work, the race is an opportunity to enjoy the results of the hard effort.

* If you have not quite managed to put in as much work as you had hoped, the chances are the atmosphere on the day will carry you forward and across the finish line.

* Take it easy the last week prior to the race and save yourself for race day.

* Don’t do anything different on race day from your normal running routine; race day is not the day to experiment.

* Remember to take lots of supporters with you (car sharing, of course).

* If you have any concerns up to the event, e-mail NHH.

* On race day, just come and find someone and have a chat – the race organisers will be around the registration tent.

* Remember to enjoy the experience – you deserve it.
