‘Satisfactory performance’ as Caithness United U16s come from behind to win at Dingwall
Caithness United under-16s came from behind to pick up a well-deserved 3-1 league victory away to Dingwall.
United fell behind just before half-time but levelled through Cory Miller five minutes into the second period when he broke through Dingwall’s high line of defence, aided by a header from Conlley Fairweather.
Shortly after that it was Fairweather’s turn to score when he rose above everyone to head the ball in from a Jamie Steven corner.
Steven squeezed in a shot from the edge of the box with about five minutes to go and that effectively killed the game off.
Caithness coach Alan Kennedy said: “The lads played some nice football in the first half, giving Dingwall a bit of a runaround but without managing to capitalise.

“I thought Sam Mackenzie in the Dingwall goal had a great game, which didn’t help our cause.
“Our lads were feeling a bit sorry for themselves going in at the break behind, having seen a lot of the ball in the first period.
“We were pretty confident that if they continued to play in a similar manner in the second half, but tidied things up in the final third, they’d get themselves back in the match – so the message was to persevere, be patient and be more clinical in front of goal.
“We were very happy with the boys’ reaction going into the second half. All in all, it was a satisfactory performance.
“One of our main issues this season is that our dominance in games often isn’t reflected in the scoreline. The boys are working hard on it, looking to become a little bit more creative in the final third, take risks and get their shots off quicker.
“There are signs of them improving on that front now too.”
Kennedy added: “I can’t really fault the lads too much, as they have had a decent season overall, albeit with a couple of blips, and they are obviously all still learning the game and working out how to win matches in different ways.
“Our focus now turns to Sunday’s game versus St Duthus at home, with the motivation being that a win would see us consolidate third place in the league behind Ross County and Clach.”
