POOL player Ryan Carter from Wick is part of the Scotland team at this week's European Eightball Championships in St Paul’s Bay, Malta.

He qualified for the international side after winning the regional tour and becoming 2019 East of Scotland champion.

Ryan, who now lives in Dundee and plays for Shotz Pool and Snooker Club, is ranked number seven in Scotland. In October he was chosen to play for the Scotland A team in the 2019 Home Nations Cup in Stockport.

"This is my fourth year in a row representing Scotland at the European championships – once in Blackpool, once in Killarney in Ireland and twice in Malta," Ryan said.

"I played many years in the Wick and District Pool League, winning nine league titles and winning the Captain's Cup five times. I had many great years playing for the Camps Bar."

Countries competing in 2020 European Eightball Championships include England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Cyprus, France, Belgium, Morocco and Portugal as well as the host nation Malta. The competition continues until Friday.

Ryan's sponsor is Taom Billiards.
