GRAMPIAN Motorcycle Club recently held round three of their 2012 Motocross Championships at Woodside, Elgin.

A new section of track has been added at the venue, providing some additional challenges for riders.

Wick’s Morgan Robertson found out he was the only rider in the rookie class. Because of this very unusual situation, he raced with the adult "C" riders – and finished well ahead of many of them – but had to be shown as winner of the rookies.

Halkirk’s Mark Sutherland recently became a dad but still managed to find the energy to drive to Elgin in good time to prepare for a day’s racing.

With over 20 competitors, the adult "B" class provided a huge amount of entertainment as positions were lost and gained at all the challenging parts of the track.

Achieving any kind of consistency was very difficult and it was very much to his credit that Sutherland was able to amass enough points to earn fourth place overall.

Watten’s Rikki Cormack rode in the same group but will have been disappointed with his results for the first and last races, with his bike showing signs of rear-end damage in the latter event.

However, his third place in race two was a great achievement and clearly demonstrated his abilities.

The overall winner was Ian Mackenzie, of Keith, but even he had mixed results, taking two second places and one third.

The next events will be held by Aberdeen and District Motocross Club at Rhynie on August 25 and 26.
