It was a busy weekend for Caithness Riding Club with competitions getting back under way at the indoor school in Halkirk.

On Saturday the dressage attracted a record number of entries with members keen to sign up to the first event in the winter league. Despite wet conditions a full day of competition took place, complete with the required Covid-19 guidelines.

The highest percentage of the day – 75.43 – was achieved by Sarah Aitken on Start Smart, winners of the Novice 24 test. Standards were high throughout the day, particularly in the introductory tests.

Sunday saw a fun jumping event which proved popular with the junior members of the club. Classes started with cross poles jumps and went up to 95-100cm, including two top score competitions.

Aimee Holmes was on form with Poppet, winning the first two classes in the morning, while Lauren Oag and Bella fought of strong competition in the exciting 80cm plus top score class to clinch the win.

The committee members were grateful for all the help received over the weekend with the smooth running of the events.

The next activity on the winter calendar is an instruction clinic with Alasdair Matheson on October 24-25.
